Abu Dhabi Finance Week 2023: What to Expect and Who to Meet

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW) is returning this year from November 27 to 30 to bring together the world’s financial leaders to discuss the fintech sector’s biggest opportunities and most urging issues.

Presented by Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), this year’s edition will run under the theme “Investing in the Transition Era” and will explore the opportunities and challenges presented by economic, technological, and sustainability shifts in the global economic landscape.

ADFW 2023’s four-day series will host 36 events and 180 sessions, attracting the participation of the heads of numerous investment funds. It’s set to be attended by over 10,000 business leaders, 3,500+ top financial firms, industry experts, policymakers, regulators, investors and bankers from over 100 countries.

Key events and highlights of ADFW 2023

This year’s ADFW edition will feature an impressive lineup of speakers comprising renowned investors, fintech founders, government officials and policymakers, including:

  • H.E. Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, chairman of ADGM and Abu Dhabi Dept. of Economic Development;
  • H.R.H. Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, founder and CEO of KBW Ventures;
  • Ray Dalio, an American billionaire investor and the founder of Bridgewater Associates;
  • Alan Howard, a British billionaire hedge fund manager and the co-founder of Brevan Howard Asset Management;
  • Laura M Cha, chairman of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing;
  • Mohammed Alardhi, executive chairman of Investcorp;
  • Yoni Assia, co-founder and CEO of eToro; and
  • Jeremy Allaire, CEO and founder, Circle.

These industry leaders and decision-makers will be covering the hottest trends and technologies in the fintech sector, as well as the regulatory landscape, the state of venture capital (VC) investment, the sustainability imperative, and more.

On the first of ADFW 2023, the opening ceremony will welcome global investment and financial firm leaders, marking the start of Abu Dhabi Economic Forum. The newly introduced segment is expected to bring together leaders from the world’s most significant finance and investment organizations to discuss the Falcon Economy, Abu Dhabi’s role as a “capital of capital”, and its emergence as a global economic and financial hub.

The day will also feature the kick-off of the Fortune Global ForumSM. Hosted by the editors of Fortune magazine, the forum aims to create a valuable opportunity for the CEOs of the world’s biggest multinational companies, including Fortune Global 500SM members, to engage in discussions that not only identify best practices, but also offer a common roadmap that addresses complex global issues.

On the second day, the Asset Abu Dhabi conference will analyse the evolving investment strategies of hedge funds, private equity houses and VC entities across the global markets. This year’s forum will build on the success of last year’s edition, continuing to shed light on topics such as investing in the next decade of technology, investing in cities of the future, and insights derived from the world’s biggest hedge funds. The agenda will include the perspectives of institutional capital and asset allocators in a changing investment landscape.

The third day of ADFW 2023 will feature the festival’s flagship event: the Fintech Abu Dhabi conference. Returning for its 7th edition, the conference will bring together the best companies, innovators, and leaders in the fintech world to delve into topics such as investing in the next human agenda, how social media is re-writing the banking playbook, digital payment trends, and the future of digital assets and currencies.

Three forums will comprise this year’s Fintech Abu Dhabi event: Blockchain Abu Dhabi, a forum which will showcase a well-curated agenda around currently relevant topics such as Web 3.0, decentralized finance (DeFi), and digital assets; AI Abu Dhabi, a special segment focused on AI, machine learning and their effect on the future of finance and financial services; and Risk 4.0, a forum which will take an in-depth look at potential financial crime risks and mitigation strategies.

Also taking place on November 29 is the Global Financial Regulators Summit. This high-level forum will bring together global regulators to discuss a range of highly consequential issues in the world of finance, such as how to encourage innovation while protecting billions of users of financial services worldwide.

Finally, the last day of ADFW 2023 will highlight sustainable finance and will coincide with the opening sessions of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) taking place this year in Dubai.

The agenda will feature the R.A.C.E. (Regulation, Awareness, Collaboration and Ecosystems) Sustainability Summit organized in partnership with The Economist. This year’s edition will be delving into topics such as green finance, the transition to net zero, bridging the USD trillion climate financing gap and the burgeoning role of youth in sustainability. It will also feature private roundtables and high-level discussions bringing together government officials, banks, financial institutions, VCs, and critical stakeholders from across the sustainability landscape.

ADFW is an annual finance festival organized by the Abu Dhabi government. The event focuses on the latest trends, innovations, and advancements in the industry, attracting each year a global audience of industry leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and regulators. In 2022, ADFW saw the participation from over 8,000 individuals representing more than 100 countries.
