Wio Bank customers in the UAE can now pay online without typing in their card details.
The bank has signed its cards up to Mastercard Click to Pay, so customers do not have to sign up themselves.
Both firms say Wio is the first card issuer in the country to take this step.
Click to Pay is Mastercard’s checkout service for online card payments. It works across devices and browsers, and at a growing number of merchants.
The service relies on tokenisation, which replaces the card number with a unique code. As a result, the actual card details stay hidden at checkout.
With Mastercard Payment Passkey, customers can also approve a purchase with a fingerprint or face scan on their own device.
This means they no longer need passwords or one-time codes. Mastercard says no sensitive payment data is shared with third parties. So even if data is intercepted, it is of no use to fraudsters.

“The auto-enablement of Click to Pay will allow our customers to complete their e-commerce purchases with a single click and with added peace of mind,”
said Prateek Vahie, Chief Commercial Officer at Wio Bank.

“At Mastercard, we are working to transform online checkout into a faster, more secure and more intuitive experience for consumers,”
said Gina Petersen-Skyrme, Senior Vice President and Country Manager, UAE & Oman at Mastercard.
Mastercard and its partners aim to make online shopping fully tokenised and verified by 2030.
