Mastercard is supporting the launch of Samsung Pay in Morocco.
Eligible Mastercard cardholders at participating banks can now pay using compatible Samsung devices. Supported transactions do not require a physical card.
The service uses the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES), the company’s tokenisation technology.
This technology replaces sensitive card details with a unique digital token, which helps protect payment credentials during transactions.
In addition, authentication and risk-based safeguards provide further layers of protection.
Samsung Pay builds on tokenisation capabilities that Mastercard has already established in Morocco.
According to the company, the launch extends its work with financial institutions and technology partners on digital payments in the country.
Participating banks can offer the service to eligible cardholders. Meanwhile, merchants that accept supported contactless payments can accommodate it as an additional payment option.

“Beyond introducing another way to pay, our ambition is to make digital payments faster, simpler, and more secure,”
said Mohamed Benomar, Country Manager of North West Africa at Mastercard.
“With Samsung Pay, we want making a payment to feel as natural as using your smartphone or smartwatch,”
said Hongseok Lee, President at Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab.
Alongside the launch, Mastercard and Samsung will run a joint campaign in Morocco to support everyday use of Samsung Pay.
The campaign will combine promotional activity with consumer education on paying with compatible Samsung devices.
Mastercard said the launch reflects its global ambition to tokenise 100% of online transactions by 2030.
