Absa Group has opened an office in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The move aims to support trade and investment flows between the Gulf and Africa.
Operating as Absa Bank Limited (DIFC Branch), the office holds a Category 4 licence from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).
Under this licence, the branch can arrange investment deals and advise on financial products. It can also arrange and advise on credit for eligible clients.
Through the new office, Absa will be closer to corporates, investors and financial institutions across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Dubai’s role as a hub linking the Middle East, Asia and Africa makes it a strategic base for the bank.
The expansion is part of Absa’s international corridor strategy, which links global capital and trade with African markets.
Sectors of interest include infrastructure, energy, logistics, agriculture and fast-moving consumer goods.

“Our decision to establish a presence in Dubai reflects the growing importance of the Gulf in Africa’s trade and investment landscape,”
said Cheryl Buss, Chief Executive Officer at Absa International.
“For Gulf-based businesses and investors looking towards Africa, the challenge is often understanding how an opportunity translates into a viable business decision,”
said Clinton Clarke, Senior Executive Officer at Absa Bank Limited (DIFC Branch).
Clarke added that a Dubai presence lets the team work more closely with clients. It also helps the team understand their target markets and sectors, and bring in the right African specialists.
As engagement with GCC-based institutions develops, Absa will prioritise opportunities that fit its sector expertise, client relationships and long-term growth strategy.
