Thunes and Ecobank Group, a pan-African financial institution, have announced a partnership to enable instant cross-border payments for individuals and businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The partnership builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 between Ecobank and TransferTo, Thunes’ parent company, which aimed to improve financial access and payment connectivity across the continent.
Through large-scale integration of banking and fintech systems, the collaboration will facilitate faster settlements, improved liquidity access, and broader payment reach.
The rollout will progressively cover Ecobank’s 32-country network, in line with local regulations, connecting customers to Thunes’ global network spanning 130 countries and over seven billion mobile wallets and bank accounts.
Peter De Caluwe, Co-Founder and CEO of Thunes, said:

“Thunes’ solutions and Ecobank’s reach are a perfect match: together we’re delivering faster, more reliable access to liquidity and creating new pathways for growth across Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Jeremy Awori, CEO of Ecobank Group, said:

“By combining our banking infrastructure with Thunes’ fintech innovation, we’re expanding real-time financial access for millions.”
The partnership’s first operational market is Togo, where Ecobank customers can now receive instant payments from international remittance providers.
Further expansion across Africa is planned in phases.
