Wahda Bank has tapped Backbase to bring its digital banking services under one roof as it expands online banking in Libya.
The bank is among Libya’s largest and plans to launch business banking services in 2027.
Retail banking will follow on the same Arabic-first platform, which will also support English.
Business customers will be able to open accounts online and manage payroll, bills and invoices through one app.
Branch and contact centre staff will use a shared workspace to handle customer requests.
The platform will connect to the bank’s existing core banking system and Libya’s instant payment infrastructure.
The partnership comes as Libya’s central bank pushes for wider adoption of electronic payments.
Backbase will provide prebuilt banking features, while Wahda Bank’s engineers can develop additional services using software development kits (SDKs).

“Wahda Bank has been a major contributor to Libya’s economic growth and has consistently been at the forefront of digital transformation in the country.
Our partnership with Backbase is the next step on that path. Together, we will give our business and retail customers Arabic-first digital banking on a platform our own engineers will keep extending.”
said Rami Benissa, CEO, Wahda Bank.
