Mastercard, uwallet and Jordan Post Company have launched BareedPay, a co-branded card programme in Jordan.
It aims to make digital payments easier to access for underserved communities, small businesses and expatriates.
Jordan Post will provide the service, while uwallet will power it. As a result, cardholders can use the card to shop online, pay government dues and settle other bills.
SMEs and merchants will also get support under the programme. In addition, it will offer prepaid and multi-currency payment products, as well as peer-to-peer and cross-border money transfers.
Under the deal, uwallet is the card issuer and Mastercard provides its global payments network.
Meanwhile, Jordan Post brings its reach through more than 400 branches across the country, according to the company.
The partners said this branch network will help the card reach more people and link them to formal financial services.
At the same time, it will support the modernisation of government payment programmes.
The launch is also in line with Jordan’s plans for digital transformation. Through this work, the partners aim to increase the use of digital financial services nationwide.
“This collaboration allows us to better serve communities across Jordan and play a key role in advancing the Kingdom’s digital economy,”
said H.E. Sami Al-Dawood, chairman at Jordan Post Company.

“At Mastercard, we work with fintech and government-backed programs in Jordan as part of our commitment to driving payments innovation and financial inclusion,”
said Saud Swar, country manager for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan and other Levant at Mastercard.
